Conservative? Move to Nevada

In the state of Nevada one can purchase as many firearms in one month as one can afford. In fact, I recently took ownership of four firearms in one day and as many as eight in one month.

In Nevada one doesn’t have to register one’s firearms (except in Clark County; we’re trying to change that).

In Nevada one can purchase black plastic semi-auto rifles. However, many of those rifles are tan or green now.

In Nevada one can purchase a firearm that contains more than ten rounds in the magazine. My semi-auto rifles utilize 20 and 30-round mags and one pistol uses a 20-round mag.

In Nevada one can own a machine gun, sub-machine gun and/or silencer. I own one for a Walther P22. I plan to buy a couple more and I am planning to legally build one of my own design for my .223 rifle.

In Nevada one can obtain a CCW and carry a concealed firearm whenever one decides to do so. I was once asked by a police officer if I always went armed. When I told him I did, he said: “Good man.” I then told him that I usually carry three guns. I am never unarmed and I don’t go places where I am not allowed to retain my firearm.

In Nevada I don’t have to wait 3 days or 10 days before I can take the firearm I purchased home.

Yes, in Nevada we do have to undergo a background check when I purchase a firearm but I can also purchase firearms from private parties without a background check. Yes, I must register them with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department but there are those of us in Nevada attempting to eliminate that requirement through the legislature.

In Nevada, unlike the Socialist People’s Republik of Kalifornia, I can still find lead wheel weights to cast bullets.

While there are a few aspects of Nevada’s gun laws that I would like to see changed, for the most part, those of us who live in Nevada are a bit freer to exercise or Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

That being the case, in the year 2000 California averaged 621.6 violent crimes per 100,000 people compared to Nevada with 524.2; murders in California: 6.1 per 100,000, Nevada: 6.5; aggravated assaults in California: 408.7 per 100,000, Nevada 247.3.

Nevada’s crime rate is about the same or less than California.

California is a “may issue” state as to concealed carry permits but Nevada is a “shall issue” state.

California only allows one gun purchase per month; Nevada doesn’t have a limit on the number of guns that can be purchased.

California requires all firearms purchased to be registered, even guns purchased from private parties; In Nevada, only in Clark County is handgun registration required.

In California, some types of rifles have been banned; Nevada hasn’t banned any particular type of firearm.

California has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, while Nevada has what I would characterize as more common sense gun laws than California with a crime rate about the same as California. Therefore, my conclusion is that the Draconian gun laws in California have done nothing to reduce crime.

Further, as a result, I do not believe there is any such thing as “common sense” gun laws.

Restricting the number of guns a person can buy in one month or the type of gun a person can buy makes no sense at all.

Not allowing people the means of protecting oneself or one’s family makes no sense at all.

Additionally, “gun-free zones” have proven to be ineffective.

Law-abiding gun owners have been shown to be exactly that: law-abiding. Criminals, on the other hand have shown themselves to be a scourge on society.

What does make sense is for the courts to hand down more realistic sentences for career and violent criminals. Prosecutors should not be allowed to plea bargain cases out of court. Parole for violent criminals should be eliminated.

Sarah Palin

Some of us desire to see the return to the principles upon which the country was founding upon.

That doesn’t seem likely with the current presidential candidates. However, there is a possibility that one of those candidates has opened the door to the return to the country’s founding principles.

With John McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin as vice-president, we have an opportunity to return to the founding principles.

One could conclude that, due to his age, John McCain would be a one-term president leaving Sarah Palin in line for two terms.

While Sarah Palin may not be the absolute best qualified presidential candidate at this time, she could be the perfect candidate in four years.

Of the four people running for president and vice-president, Sarah Palin is obviously the most conservative of the group. Apparently, she believes the same things that at least half the country believes; that smaller government is better, less tax is better, personal freedom is better, individual accomplishments are better.

As a person who desires less government interference in my life, the freedom to own as many firearms as I chose to own for legitimate reasons (target shooting, collecting, hunting although I don’t hunt, self-defense and deterrent of government tyranny), the ability to choose which kind of light bulbs I use I would love to see a person in the White House who believes that I should be able to live my life as I see fit. Sarah Palin appears to be that person.

A vote for John McCain in 2008 is really a vote for Sarah Palin in 2012.

ADAM HENRY DRIVERS

Driving in Las Vegas is an interesting challenge.

When I first arrived in Southern Nevada I thought folks here drove like maniacs. Then, after being here for a few months I went back to SoCal for a short visit and discovered that the people there drove like maniacs as well.

So, here are some tips for people (male and female) who drive:

Hang up and drive. I am certain that some little girl driving a Neon isn’t closing some important business deal on the phone and her call can wait until she gets home.

Pick a lane. Pick a lane and stay there. Changing lanes every 200 feet, attempting to get in front of the car in front of you ain’t gonna get you there any faster.

Plan ahead. Figure out where you are going and how to get there before you get in the damn car. If you know you’re gonna have to make a left turn up ahead, get into the inside lane a mile from the turn. Don’t wait till you’re 200 feet from the left turn lane before moving from the farthest outside lane to the turn lane.

When making a turn, make the damn turn! Most of us don’t have all day to wait behind you.

You may think you are being considerate and doing your good dead for the day by letting some schuck out of a parking lot driveway but you are being inconsiderate to the other schucks behind you.

Remember, lights set for 35 miles per hour are also set for 70 miles per hour, NOT! Speeding may get you through one light but you’ll get stopped at the next light. Don’t be in such a big hurry to die, or kill someone else for that matter.

If it takes one half hour to get there leave 45 minutes before you need to be there.

If you are going straight through an intersection, don’t be in the right lane at a red light. Some people may want to be able to make a right turn on that red light.

Stop going through red lights damn it!

If the speed limit is 45 MPH, don’t drive 35.

If you are the first car in the right turn lane, turn right, don’t go straight trying to get out in front of the people going straight.

Where does it say that you are so special that you can park in the fire lane at the store just because your passenger went inside and you stayed with the car?

Don’t be an Adam Henry when you drive.

IS IT JUST ME OR . . .

Is it just me or are the following words and phrases extremely over-used:

Execution style

Surreal

Back in the day

Faux

Old school

At the end of the day

Packing heat

And speaking of “packing heat” . . .

When I read articles about gun control and/or concealed carry, invariably the writer says something about this not being the “old west” or “wild west.”

First, it seems to me that our time is much more violent than the old west. It would be nice if we did live in the old west. Then we could at least shoot back. The local sheriff would ask: “What happened here?” And we would say, “Well, sheriff, it’s like this: “I caught this here card sharp cheatin’ and I called him out.” And witnesses to the shootin’ would say: “Yep, sheriff, he gave him every chance, but that tin horn drew first. It was a fair fight, sheriff” And the sheriff would say: “Some of you boys cart him over to the undertaker.” And that would be that.

But my second point is, if’n this ain’t the “old west” news writers ought to stop using words and phrases that have been out of use since the ‘30s or ‘40s. Words like “packing heat”, “packing iron” or “toting a gun.”

The phrase “packing heat” is tired. At least change it up once in a while. How about using “smoke wagon” occasionally?

And execution style? Aren’t you stood in front of a wall when you are executed by firing squad? Certainly, I suppose when the bad guys makes you kneel and he shoots you in the back of the head he executed you but still, that phrase is over-used by an unimaginative MSM.

FALLING INTO THE TRAP

During my reading I am surprised to find that many writers are still using words and phrasses made up by the Brady Bunch and others in the anti-gun crowd. these are words and phrases designed to cast a bad light on our shooting sports. The anti-gunners coined words and phrases such as "high capacity ammunition feeding devices" or "high capacity magazines", and "assault weapons".

For us to adopt these words and phrases lend credence and legitimacy to them.

There is no such thing as an "assault weapon" or "high capacity magazines".

In place of "high capacity" how about we use wide body or double stack. In place of "assault weapon" we should call them rifles or even semi-auto rifles or better yet, sporting rifles.

Further, when we see these words or phrases used in news articles we must write to the author and gently correct that usage explaning that these phrases are meant to be disparaging. For that reason we must stop using them ourselves. End of lesson.

There are no such thin

Liberals in Nevada

Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) is up for election in 2010. Let's see if we can help Harry find another vocation. Obviously Harry doesn't understand free market concepts, supply & demand or anything about oil. I strongly advise Harry to watch History Channel's Modern Marvels - Secrets of Oil. This episode is extremely informative.

Harry Reid's (D-Searchlight) idea about domestic oil is to leave it in the ground since there is a finite amount available. Leave it there for what?

Harry Pelosi (D-Searchlight) and Nancy Reid (D-Fantasyland) are contributing to the demise of our economy and the country.

Let's vote liberalism out of existance.

Freedom in Nevada

I was born in Texas, but I lived in California (or as we call it, the Socialist People’s Republik of Kalifornia) from age 8 to 46.  In 1998 I moved to Nevada.

Even though I have lived most of my life in California I never accepted California’s liberalism; I never forgot my Texas roots. I have always considered myself a Southerner and appreciate my southern heritage.

Part of that heritage includes individualism, independence, liberty and freedom.

That being the case, living in Nevada has been a wonderful change from California.

The difference in freedom in Nevada as opposed to California is striking. See http://www.keepandbeararms.com/newsarchives/XcNewsPlus.asp?cmd=view&articleid=976

Since I now live in the freer state of Nevada, I decided to take advantage of that freedom. Since moving to Nevada I have obtained a concealed carry permit, a suppressor (silencer) for a .22 caliber handgun, an AR type rifle (with collapsible stock, bayonet lug and 30 round magazines. OMG!) and membership at a great outdoor range. There are also a number of great places in the desert where one can go to shoot. There are also several gun stores with indoor ranges where you can maintain your shooting skills.

Further, I have introduced a number of coworkers to the shooting sports.

California law requires people to purchase a handgun once every thirty days. Actually, I think the law was intended to restrict said purchases to one every thirty days so a lot of California gun owners make sure they keep up with their monthly allotment. It is my personal belief that some people buy more guns during the year than they would have otherwise if the rationing law didn’t exist. I have maintained that practice since moving to Nevada. During one month I purchased nine handguns. You gotta love that.

In Nevada you can still find guns for sale in the local newspaper and you can buy guns from private individuals.

Here in Nevada we also have Vin Suprynowicz. You must check out Vin.

There are a couple of other states that aren’t as restrictive as California such as Utah, Idaho and Arizona. If you find that California life is too restrictive you might consider moving to one of the freer states.

However, if you do move to Nevada and you are a liberal, please leave your liberalism at the border (state line). We don’t want your liberal California BS here.

ANDERSON COOPER, GREENLAND AND GLOBAL WARMING

Now, I am not a genius by any stretch of the imagination but when CNN's Anderson Cooper says that 40% of Greenland's ice has melted and I look at Greenland with GOOGLE EARTH (not that this is scientific or difinitive in any way) and I see that Greenland is COVERED with ice and snow, I have to wonder what kind of maroon Anderson Cooper is and what kind of scam he's trying to put over on us.

FORTY PERCENT? Give me a break!

FROM RUSH LIMBAUGH: Last night on CNN, there was a report by Anderson Cooper: Greenland's ice sheet, 30% of it gone in the past 30 years.  Not true.  It is total and outright false.  It is an incorrect assertion.  Greenland has cooled since the 1940s.  The melt rate from 1920 to 1930 was twice as fast as the current melt rate in Greenland.  Now, this mistake was verified with a Greenland scientist this morning, the CNN mistaken.  The scientist said that if Greenland lost as much ice, 40% of its ice as CNN reported last night, there would already be a ten-foot surge in sea level.
